Novellae on Tractate Gittin – lessons given by the gaon Rabbi Moshe Greenwald, author of Arugat HaBosem, at his yeshivah in Kleinwardien. Written by his student, R’ Shlomo Zilberman.
Novellae by the author of Arugat HaBosem are written on the first ten leaves of the manuscript. “To this point are novellae of my teacher, the gaon, the famous sage, the lofty tzaddik … (many honorifics) Rabbi Moshe Greenwald, Av Beit Din and lecturer in Kleinwardien. All this I learned with him the summer of 1888 here in Kleinwardien, the youth Shlomo Zilberstein of Patchindorf” is written at their conclusion.
From there on are many novellae and lessons in several tractates as heard by the writer fromֲ the gaon Rabbi Yehudah Leibush Yalles, Av Beit Din of Sebezh.
The gaon, the author of Arugat HaBosem (1853-1910), was a lofty gaon and tzaddik, sanctified and pure, who conducted himself with piety; one of the foremost disciples of the Ktav Sofer and one of the leading disseminators of Torah in his generation. Author of Shu”t Arugat HaBosem and more – apparently these novellae have not yet been printed.
The gaon Rabbi Yehudah Leibush Yalles, (1919-2005) was the Av Beit Din of Sebezh for over 50 years, a tremendous gaon, sharp and expert in all of Talmudic and adjudicative literature (מליצי אש). He taught Torah to many, and his yeshivah produced leaders in Torah and fear of Heav-n. He wrote a book of halachic and practical responsa that has not been printed.
