Two posters issued by Rabbi Hirsch.
1. Offene Anfrage. ‘Public Question’. One large printed leaf 40×21 cm. Print on one side. German. First published in a newspaper issued in Berlin on the 16th of April, 1854. It was printed independently a few days later.
On the bottom of the leaf there is a unique printed request that the leaf be publicized in all public places. This copy is pasted to canvas. Very fine condition.
The Breslau Seminary studied Bible criticism and its teachers included some who deviated from the traditional understanding of the Torah. Rabbi Hirsch writes that he considers learning in the institution heretical. Rabbi Zecharya Frankel opened the Seminary. Rabbi Hirsch also opposed him and his work “Darchei HaMishna”.
2. Poster from the 16th of June, 1854 opposing the Jewish Theological Seminary in Breslau. German. Titled in German ‘what happened in the wake of the first poster, Offene Anfrage’. Large leaf 37×23 cm. Light reinforcement in two places and light tears in the blank margins. Moderate-fine condition.
The posters are bound in a cardboard binding, both are especially are.
