“May the merit of the great eagle the Ar”i z”l, his sacred disciple Rabbi Chaim Vital z”l and the crown on our heads, the G-dly Kabbalist Rabbi Sar Shalom … protect with the elef hamagen – [you] and [your] entire household; protect [you] from all distress and damage, from all illness and disease. May you know no sorrow; may there be fortune and wealth in [your] home and may His righteousness stand by [you] forever”!
This emissary letter is addressed to the gvir Pinchas Dagim. In it, these leading Kabbalists of Jerusalem ask him to assist the yeshivah’s emissary, Rabbi Ya’akov ben Baba, a respected member of the Bukharian community, who is leaving on a mission for the Beit El Kabbalists’ yeshivah in Jerusalem established by the Rasha”sh HaKadosh. Two especially large stamps appear next to the signatures, one from the Beit El yeshivah, and the second from members and administrators of Kehal Chassidim in Jerusalem.
Signed on this rare emissary letter are four leading Sephardic sages of Jerusalem, four mekubalei hadorot : the G-dly Kabbalist Rabbi Sasson Bech”r Moshe Frisiado, head of the Kabbalists’ yeshivah, Beit El, and author of the fundamental work Shemen Sasson al Kitvei HaAr”i – signed and stamped by him in purple ink; the G-dly Kabbalist and wonder-worker Rabbi Massoud HaKohen Elchadad, who, after the passing of the Shemen Sasson, succeeded him as rosh yeshivah of Beit El – signature and stamp; the G-dly Kabbalist Rabbi Nissim Ezra Eini, leading sage of Baghdad, and one of the leading sages of the Beit El Kabbalists’ yeshivah in Jerusalem – signature and stamp; the G-dly Kabbalist and sage Chacham Bechor Aharon Elnekaveh, who signed approbations for moreinu Rabbi Chaim Vital’s Sha’ar HaGilgulim (Jerusalem, 1903) – signature and stamp; and the G-dly Kabbalist Chacham Avraham Chaim Pinso, author of Tola’at Shani (this last one is only stamped).
Aside from this emissary letter’s historic value, there is also its segulah/amulet value with rare blessings signed by leading Sephardic Kabbalists, who bless “May the merit of the great eagle the Ar”i z”l, his sacred disciple Rabbi Chaim Vital z”l and the crown on our heads, the G-dly Kabbalist Rabbi Sar Shalom … protect with the elef hamagen – [you] and [your] entire household; protect [you] from all distress and damage, from all illness and disease. May you know no sorrow; may there be fortune and wealth in [your] home and may His righteousness stand by [you] forever” – words of those who plead on [your] behalf – a petition of life and peace.”
