The Vanished World, published by the Forward Association, New York, 1947. English and Yiddish.
Impressive album book edited by Raphael Abramowitz containing 530 varied photographs [the size of an entire page] from various Jewish cities and villages in Eastern Europe, which depict Jewish community life in pre-Holocaust Eastern Europe: photographs of Jewish figures, synagogues, streets, stores, and daily life.
The book is divided into two parts – photographs of streets and buildings in Jewish cities, and photographs of Jewish figures. It also contains photographs of important Admors [the Admor of Spinka], well-known Rabbis [Rabbi Elchanan Wasserman, Rabbi Aharon Kotler], photographs of important funerals, yeshivas, pioneers and more. Each photograph is described in Yiddish and English. Most of the photographs were taken by Roman Vishniac, M. Kipnis and Alter Kacyzna.
On the cover is a picture – a woodcut by the artist Shlomo Yudovin.
