“V’Zot Torat HaBayit.” Halachot of prohibitions and permissions – issur v’heter – by Rabbi Shlomo ben Aderet the Rashb”a. Printed by Vincenzo Conti 1566. First edition.
[leaves 48,13-15, 53-72 have discoloration.] 21 cm.
On the inside of the binding is a printed label, a sort of bookplate: “Belongs to the Gaon Rabbi Leib Berlin, Head of the Beit Din of the holy community of Hamburg.” Under this are a number of lines written by hand.
Rabbi Aryeh Leib of Berlin (1737 – 1814) one of the great sages of his time, was a leader of the community of Feurth from 1773-1778. In 1790 he was Head of the Beit Din of Hamburg, and from 1794 the Head of the Beit Din of Kassel and the state of Hessen. His emendations on most of the Talmud tractates have been lost, and of them only his work on Tractate Shavuot was printed in the Vilna Sha”s editions. His brother, Rabbi Noach Chayim Zvi Berlin, author of “Atzei Almogim, ” admired him greatly and named his book “Atzei Arazim” in his name.
On leaf 21 page 2, is the handwritten signature : “I, Shlomo, son of Avraham, z”l, of Peaselburg, Bohemia.” Apparently he was the son of Rabbi Avraham Peaselburg, Head of the Beit Din of Prague and a friend of Rabbi Yehonatan Ibshitz. He died in 1746.
