Elucidations and novellae on Rabbeinu Yerucham’s hilchot kiddushin, by Rabbi Yehudah Shlomo Ashkenazi. Only edition.
[3], 211 leaves. 30 cm.
The title page bears a nice dedication in the hand of the author with his elaborate signature.
HaGaon Rabbi Yehudah Shmuel Ashkenazi was known as the “Ba’al HaBatim” because of the “batim” that he wrote: Beit Oved, Beit Menuchah, Beit HaShoevah, Beit Moed, and the Geza Yishai on the rules of the Talmud. He was a Tiberias sage. In 1822, he set out on a fundraising mission to Europe and settled in Leghorn where he printed all of his works. He passed away while printing his Beit HaShoevah in 1849. His books are quoted many times by Rabbi Chaim Palagi, who eulogized him upon his death (refer to Birchat Moadecha L’Chaim, section two, drush 3).
Binding in disrepair. Other than the fact that the title page and first two leaves are detached, the book is in very fine condition.
