Historic document – letter of excommunication and kol koreh for the removal of the chacam bashi , Rabbi Sasson Kadouri, signed by 29 Baghdad rabbis, 1929.
Letter of excommunication opposing Rabbi Sasson Kadouri, who had been appointed as chacham bashi with the support of assimilationists after R’ Ezra Reuven Dangur resigned. Inter alia , then mention that he allows the appointment of non-Jewish teachers in the schools, and the advancement of moves that even the Reform did not dare. After he was excommunicated and his slaughter was forbidden, Rabbi Kadouri went and spoke slander about leading rabbis of Baghdad, R’ Avraham Atzalan, R’ Shlomo Laniado, who gave them a fine, and R’ Avraham Atzlan, who also imposed a prison sentence.
The stamp of the V’a’ad HaRuchani of Baghdad appears at the end of the document, along the signatires from 29 Baghdad rabbis, including: R’ David b”r Ya’akov b”r Yosef Chaim (grandson of the Ben Ish Chai), Rabbi Yehudah Pattiyah, R’ Yitzchak Mutzafi, and others.
