“Know that I am putting in more effort than my strength allows, and I am neglecting most urgent issues and stealing much time from my study and from my yeshivah …”
Lengthy letter between two “captains” of Judaism, with important historic information, entirely handwritten and signed by the leader of American Jewry, Rabbi Aharon Kotler, and addressed to the tremendous gaon Rabbi Zalman Sorotzkin. The letter discusses religious and political issues in the Holy Land. New York, 1955.
In his fascinating letter, Rabbi Aharon Kotler discusses his public activities for Chareidi education. Apparently, this is with respect to activities on behalf of Chinuch Atzma’i, which was established a short time after this letter was written, as well as internal Chareidi political issues such as “with respect to negotiations with the Poalei Agudat Yisrael representative.”
This letter demonstrates the prodigious efforts and sense of responsibility Rabbi Aharon felt to strengthen issues of religion and education, as he himself writes at the beginning of the letter, “The telegrams have been received, and I am putting in more effort than my strength allows to assist them …”
Rabbi Aharon also mentions visits of two prominent personalities in the Land of Israel, and the great importance of Rabbi Zalman Sorotzkin giving them accurate information “Because various groups are already presenting them with the other side’s perspective, who will show them different numbers, and distort the truth…” and he asks him to bring them to the ga’avad of Brisk.
Rabbi Kotler mentions the following names in his letter: The gaon Rabbi Yechezkel Abramsky, the
ga’ava”d of Brisk , shlit”a, Dr. Jung, Rabbi Hollander –
nasi of the Rabbinical Association, Rabbi Schechter, Rabbi Moshe Posen, Rabbi Yitzchak Hutner and Rabbi Moshe Feinstein.
