Interesting letter regarding a forced get for a woman with a mental health problem who hid it from her husband; from the kabbalist Rabbi Mordechai Sharabi. Jerusalem, 1978.
Rabbi Sharabi, in his letter to the Beit Din, expresses his opinion that the couple should divorce, and this will be best for both of them, all the more so because the wife’s family deceived the husband and did not disclose the woman’s illness; and it is also known that her brother suffers from mental illness. The rabbi concludes his letter, “may you become knowledgeable and successful in all your endeavors, M. Sharabi.”
Rabbi Mordechai Sharabi [1908-1984] was one of the leading kabbalists of the recent generation, and rosh yeshivah of the famous kabbalistic yeshivah, ‘Nahar Shalom.’ He was known for his sanctity and as a wonder-worker. Masses flocked to his doorstep seeking counsel and blessing. His greatness in kabbalah became a byword, and leading kabbalists from all circles would turn to him with their doubts so that he would resolve them. His disciples included: Rabbi Yehuda Meir Getz ztz”l (rabbi of the Western Wall); Rabbi Tziyon Berachah; Rabbi Shalom Shmueli and his son Rabbi Benayahu Shmueli, who succeeded him as rosh yeshivah of Nahar Shalom.
