Letter. Endorsement of the appointment of a moreh tzedek by Rabbi Yisrael Nissan Kuperstock, author of the “Ani Ben Pachma” responsa, in the town of Makava 1913.
“Protocol of agreement concluded between the Head of the Beit Din of this place and Rabbi Shmuel Yosef Rosenthal, to appoint him as moreh tzedek in place of the deceased moreh tzedek Rabbi Mattal, as determined herein.” In the margins are the signatures of Rabbi Yisrael Nissan and the appointed moreh tzedek.
Rabbi Yisrael Nissan Kuperstock, Head of the Beit Din of Makava was the son of Rabbi Moshe Aryeh Kuperstock, and a disciple of the rabbis of Kotzk and Makava, a student the Gaon of Kotna who discussed halacha with the “Avnei Nezer.” In 1924 he immigrated to Israel and was the head of the Alexander Yeshiva founded in 1929. In 1928 he published his responsa “Ani Ben Pachma” in Jerusalem, and others of his new interpretations remain as manuscripts.
