Manuscript. Two halachic replies from the personal notebook of responses of the Gaon Rabbi Simcha Bonim Sofer, Head of the Beit Din and rabbi in Pressburg, author of “Shevet Sofer”
Very large leaves. 24 x 38 cm. Written on both sides with an ornate signature at the end. Also half of an additional reply to his student Rabbi Shimon Deitch (See about him in “The Chatam Sofer and His Studetns”, pg. 610)
The author of “Shevet Sofer” was born in 1843 and was the son of the Ktav Sofer. From 1872 he held his father’s position as Head of the Beit Din and Rosh Yeshiva of Greater Pressburg. He was a leader of Hungarian Jewry and also very active in settling the land of Israel. He did in 1907. Among his books were printed the “Shevet Sofer” responsa, “Sha’arei Simcha” on the Torah, and “Shevet Sofer” on the Talmud.
