Very beautiful ktav semichah entirely handwritten, signed and stamped by the renowned gaon Rabbi Yosef Leib Sofer, av beit din of Paks and author of Yalkut Sofer , one of the Shevet Sofer’s leading disciples, and son of the sacred gaon Rabbi Zussman Sofer of Paks. Paks, 1902.
In this letter of ordination, the av beit din of Paks refers to his disciple as “expert in Torah and fear of Heaven, the lightning sharp Rabbi Naftali Tzvi Hertzel, ” with the title of ” Chaver” upon the completion of his studies in the Paks yeshivah, on his journey to rabbinic wisdom “to the senior yeshivah in Pressburg” (where the Yalkut Sofer , who wrote this ordination, also studied).
The Paks Sofer family dynasty is the most famous and prominent rabbinic dynasty in Hungary after that of the Chatam Sofer. Its roots begin several generations earlier than that of the Chatam Sofer. The Chatam Sofer even refers to it in one of his letters: “To my dear friend, the sharp wondrous rabbi, expert tzaddik lofty Rabbi Eliezer Zussman (I) ” scion of the sacred .” Branches of the Paks Sofer dynasty are interwoven throughout the generations with the Chatam Sofer’s dynasty, to the extent that the Ktav Sofer adopted one of the members of the family as a son – the gaon Rabbi Zussman Sofer, father of the writer of this semichah .
