First edition of one of the most important books of responsa. The author was born and lived in Constantinople. Beginning in 1495 he was the chief rabbi of Turkey, for 30 years. He passed away in 1525. He was renowned for his wisdom on topics in astronomy and mathematics as well. His Sefer HaMesaper on these topics was printed in Constantinople in 1533. He also wrote a number of leaves on “shachshpeil” [chess] which were printed in Lvov in 1809, called Melechet HaMesaper .
This early edition had two leaves regarding persecution removed, the copy before us also does not contain these leaves. This copy is a variant: the text of the title page and the letters of the introduction are different from those noted by Yaari, HaDefus HaIvri B’Kushta , 161. They are according the the second text noted by Yaari.
Condition: Fine-very fine. Aging stains. Slightly blemished antique leather binding.
