“Arvei Nachal” by Rabbi David Shlomo Ibshitz. Zhitomir 1858. Dedication by Rabbi Yosef Shmuel Abulafia, a rabbi of Tiberius, to the kabbalist Rabbi Chai Maimon of Tripoli.
On the page before the title page is a long, signed dedication in his handwriting – four wide lines signed as Is”h Zemach, and on the same page he also signed as name as Yis”a. On the reverse side of the title page is a handwritten note by the kabbalist Rabbi Chai Maimon in which he states that he received this book as a gift from Rabbi Yosef Shmuel Abulafia.
Rabbi Yosef Shmuel Abulafia, grandson of the founder of the Jewish community in Tiberius Rabbi Chaim Abulafiya, was born in Tiberius in 1845. He went as an emissary to Tunis, and died on the way in 1894. His book “Yis”a Bracha” remains a manuscript (“Sefer Tveria, ” pg. 279).
Rabbi Chai Maimon, author of “Be’er LeChai, ” was a dayan in Tripoli known as a holy man and chassid.
