Rabbi Shmuel Yehuda Weingot, Head of the Beit Din of Kowel, near Warsaw, was one of the great sages of Poland, descendent of the Gaonim of Poland, grandson of Rabbi Issachar Chenstechov, author of “Pitchei Sha’arim, ” and disciple of Rabbi Avigdor Leibush Levinthal, Head of the Beit Din of Kowel. He served as Head of the Beit Din of a number of communities in Poland, wrote (among other works) “Lechem Ishi” and his commentary on “Ktzot HaChoshem” was also published. His son was Rabbi Efraim Shraga Weingot, Head of a Beit Din of Safed.
